What Is Socket Welding Flange

A socket welding flange is a type of flange that involves inserting the end of a pipe into a flange ring step and welding it both on the inside and outside of the pipe. It comes in two variations: with a neck and without a neck. The necked flange provides better rigidity, minimizes welding deformation, and offers excellent sealing performance. It is suitable for applications with a pressure range of 1.0 to 10.0 MPa. Type B flanges for vessels are also categorized as socket welding flanges and are used in situations that demand higher sealing requirements. When designing, the socket welding flange can be assessed using the same criteria as an integral flange.
