Stainless steel round steel and rebar are two popular names for steel bars used in construction engineering. They have distinct differences that can affect their performance in specific applications. Here are five important points that set them apart from each other:
1. Shape: Stainless steel round steel has a cylindrical shape, whereas rebar is generally rectangular or square in shape.
2. Size: The size of stainless steel round steel is typically smaller than rebar. It is available in a range of diameters, while rebar is usually sold in standard sizes based on their cross-sectional area.
3. Composition: Stainless steel round steel is made from stainless steel, which contains a minimum of 10.5% chromium and other alloying elements. Rebar, on the other hand, is usually made from carbon steel, which is less corrosion resistant than stainless steel.
4. Strength: Both types of steel are strong, but rebar has higher tensile strength than stainless steel round steel. This makes it suitable for applications that require higher load-bearing capacity.
5. Application: Stainless steel round steel is commonly used in construction for aesthetic purposes, such as handrails and balustrades. Rebar, on the other hand, is typically used for reinforced concrete structures such as bridges, buildings, and roads.
The difference in appearance between stainless steel round bars and rebars is quite evident. While the outer surface of stainless steel round bars is smooth, the outer surface of rebars has helical ribs that run along their length. This makes the two types of bars visually distinctive and easy to tell apart.
The production standards differentiate between stainless steel round bar and rebar. Currently, stainless steel round bar is made from HPB235 grade steel bar, and its production standard is "Hot-rolled smooth steel bar for reinforced concrete" (GB13013). On the other hand, rebar is usually made from HRB335 and HRB400 grade steel bar, and its production standard is "Reinforced Concrete Steel Bar" (GB13013) or "Hot-rolled ribbed steel bar" (GB1499). It is important to note these differences in production standards to ensure proper use and application in construction projects.
The strength levels differ among various types of steel. Stainless steel round steel (HPB235) has a design strength of 210MPa, which is lower compared to rebar. Rebar, specifically HRB335, boasts a higher strength with a design strength of 300MPa. In fact, HRB400 offers even greater strength, with a design strength of 360MPa.
Steel grades refer to different types of steel with varying chemical compositions. For instance, stainless steel round bars like HPB235 are made of carbon steel and classified under the Q235 steel grade. On the other hand, rebar, which is used in construction, consists of low alloy steel. HRB335 steel bars specifically contain 20MnSi, which stands for 20 manganese silicon. Additionally, HRB400 steel bars can be composed of 20MnSiV, 20MnSiNb, 20MnTi, or other similar alloys. These different steel grades provide specific properties and characteristics suitable for various applications.
